This is a drawing for an exhibition in Barcelona's Casa del Libro, a homage of the mythical Dragon Ball series. So following the path of my adaptation of Tangled to Bottcelli's Venus, I decided to adapt several main characters of Dragon Ball to immortal Velazquez masterpiece "Las Meninas". I haven't had plenty of time to do it, only about four nights, but I hope the result is decent. Done with Paint Tool SAI. This is a fanart. Dragon Ball is property of Akira Toriyama and Shueisha.
Wow, this piece is really excellent. I like how you've portrayed Trunks as Princess Margarita, because they both seem to be somwehat brattish. Also, Goten and Krillin as the dwarves is a clever idea, because they are the shortest in the DBZ party. In fact, all of your character choices are lovely, Goku in the background, th andriods replacing the painting/window showing the king and queen, Gohan as the Vasquez's representation of himself - all wonderful!
And the colour pallet you have worked from is stunning. The warmish colours at the bottom complement the cool colours of the sky and hills. Overall, you have done a fantastic job!
Wow!!! The composition and tone of color is very interesting. Did you draw this by only SAI?? ...Unbelievable!!! This is just the work painting in tempera,amazing... I have seen the DB fanart that based on ”La Nascita di Venere” by Botticelli before, but it's only one time, and the theme is BL. I love Velázquez too,and "Las Meninas" is one of my favorite picture. Mybe the left man who has a pallet is Akira Toriyama, isn't it? Anyway, this picture is brimming with your playful spirit,I love it. I want to see your original works so much!
